No safe round

The round is the hard part, not the science. Someone will say a sip is fine. The Raising Children picture guide does not say that.

If you are trying to get pregnant, it says both of you avoid alcohol. Not only her. Once she is pregnant, the safest line is none.

There is no safe level. Alcohol in pregnancy can harm the baby. It can raise the risk of miscarriage, stillbirth, premature birth, and serious health problems for the child.

It can also raise her own risk of problems in the pregnancy. One of the serious outcomes named on the page is fetal alcohol spectrum disorder, which can affect health, learning, and emotional and social development.

That is the whole argument. Not a points system. Not a trimester loophole you heard from a uncle.

Breastfeeding gets the same safest none. Alcohol passes into the milk and can affect the baby's development. If you are the one fetching the drink at a wedding six weeks after the birth, that is the fact in your hand.

The swaps are ordinary. Water, milk, herbal tea, non-alcoholic wine and beer. Check the bottle.

Some drinks sold as non-alcoholic still have a small amount of alcohol in them. A label takes ten seconds. A guess takes the point off the rule.

If the glass was how either of you came down from a day, replace the job of the glass. The page suggests a bath, a massage, or a walk. You can run interference at a barbecue without a speech.

Get her a drink that is actually zero before anyone asks what she wants. If people push, you can take the question. She should not have to perform her medical decision between courses.

If stopping is not simple, that is a midwife or doctor conversation, early. Not a private bargain where she cuts down and you both agree not to mention it. Support on the page means telling the clinician.

It also means you are not drinking in her face as a lifestyle while telling her to be good. The trying-to-conceive line already includes you.

You do not need to become a monk for the whole friendship group. You do need the house rule to be boring and clear. No alcohol in the pregnancy.

No wink. If you drink, do it where it is not her test of willpower every night. Better, park it.

The months are not that long, and the outcome the page is trying to avoid does not come with a second chance to rewrite the drinks.
