Newborn ยท guide
The first fortnight
You are not supposed to know this already. The job is small and repetitive: feed, nappy, temperature, sleep, then do it again. Australian parent guidance treats the early weeks as a time to learn your baby, not to hit a schedule.
Safe sleep
Put the baby on their back to sleep, on a firm flat surface, face uncovered, in the same room as you. That is the safe-sleep rule from official guidance, not a style choice. If you are using a sling, keep the face visible and the chin off the chest.
Feeding bunches up
Feeding will bunch up, especially in the evening. That cluster is normal in the early weeks. Your move is practical: keep water in reach, take the nappy and the settle, and hand over when the shift you agreed actually ends.
